When this video opens, Franklin is busy investigating some very important smells in the grass. The Bernese Mountain Dog thinks it’s just a normal walk. But his mom decided to run a quick test. She wants to see if he even notices her when she does something.
While the dog is distracted, she lets go of the leash in the video and just keeps walking. You can see more of his 100 lbs of chaos at @yournewfriendfranklin. He is a giant puppy in training, but he is already proving that he isn’t going anywhere without his mom.
Dog follows owner even after they drop the leash
The leash hits the dirt, and Franklin is suddenly very alert. He stops sniffing. He looks at his mom walking away, and then he just freezes. He looks completely confused. You can basically see his brain trying to buffer.
“That immediate look of confusion and shock!!! Poor boy,” one viewer commented. This Bernese Mountain dog doesn’t run for the hills. He just stands there. He is wondering why his human is leaving him behind and walking away.
But then he snaps out of it. The text on the dog video says he is coming for his mom, leash and all. He hops onto the paved path and gives his whole body a good shake once. Then he picks up pace and hobbles to his mom’s side. He doesn’t even care that the leash is dragging right next to him.
One fan joked that he’s thinking, “Mom you forgot something.” He is acting like he’s the one in charge of the situation. His mom says, “Thank you,” when he finally catches up. He is acting so politely. The pup could’ve run off in any direction if he wanted, but he chose his mom. It is a very sweet reaction.
Another person in the comments pointed out that he knows his mom is his ride home. He has a schedule to keep. Counter surfing and naps won’t happen if he gets lost in the park. He knows exactly where he belongs, and he is definitely staying there.
