An Instagram video from @bigdieselthemal shows a dog running to his mom in a heartwarming moment. In the video, an Alaskan Malamute named Diesel hears his mom call his name and takes off across the yard like he just got the best news of his life, as the on-screen caption says, “Watch what happens when I say his name.” The caption under the video gushes, “I’ll never get over the way he comes running like I’m his whole world.”

The video begins with the dog running in the distance when his mom yells “Diesel,” and that is all it takes for the fluffy “big boy” to come charging toward her. As he gets closer, she greets him with, “Hi, big boy,” and then, as he moves toward the car, she happily says, “There he is.”

Diesel walks toward the driver’s side as his mom opens the door. She greets him with a happy “Hello,” then asks, “What’re you doing out here?” as he leans in for head rubs. The dog crowds into the open door with his tongue out as his mom keeps repeating, “What’re you doin’?”

Then, Diesel accepts every last one of what the on-screen text calls “smoochies.” After their reunion, the video adds, “Diesel wanted to give me a hug,” right as he presses in and she wraps her arms around him, and ends with a message that says, “he is SO loved.”

People in the comments section loved the sweet reunion. One viewer joked, “Maam that’s not Diesel, that’s a whole truck,” while another mimicked Diesel’s inner voice, saying, “Finallyyy you open the door HOOMAANNN.”

The reason why this might look so intense is that dogs learn their names through repetition, and they connect that sound to attention and affection from their favorite person — so when this dog hears his mom’s call, he gets very excited.
