Apparently, Pilot didn’t get the memo that states Golden Retrievers are supposed to be sweet all the time. In a video shared by @adventures.of.pilot, the fluffy troublemaker spends nearly a full minute treating his mom’s attempts at affection like an outrageous invasion of personal space. The thing is, he isn’t actually annoyed. He’s, in fact, enjoying playing with his mom even if it doesn’t look like it. Thousands of viewers couldn’t stop laughing, and it’s easy to see why.

Golden Retriever gets all spicy when it’s playtime with owner

Pilot is stretched out on the bed when his mom approaches with a simple request. “Can I pet you please?” The answer arrives before she even finishes moving her hand. Chomp. Not a real bite, of course. Just enough playful mouthiness to make it clear that touching privileges have not been granted yet. His mom laughs and asks again, and Pilot objects again.

Soon, the two of them are locked in a ridiculous tackle involving a hand and a mouth. Every time she reaches toward him, he counters with another dramatic response. Sometimes it’s a bark. Other times it’s a playful snap at the air, and sometimes he just seems extremely offended that she keeps trying.

The best part is how seriously Pilot appears to take the whole thing. His mom tries negotiating, asking him to “let” her pet him. Pilot refuses, but she tries sneaking in a quick pet anyway. Pilot blocks it again. When she changes tactics, Pilot somehow has an answer for those, too.

At one point, she tells him, “It’s not time to be a shark,” which feels like valuable information he has chosen to ignore. Eventually, she manages a few head pats, but even then, Pilot acts like he’s allowing them under protest.

Anyone familiar with a Golden Retriever knows they can be goofy, expressive, and a little dramatic when they’re excited. Pilot simply takes those qualities and amplifies them. The funniest part is that he never leaves. For a dog who claims to be against pets, he spends an awful lot of time making sure his mom keeps trying.
