A sweet video shows a little boy getting onto the lake raft in one quick jump, but his dog stops short when it’s his turn. Then the raft starts drifting from the jetty, leaving the pup standing there as his best buddy moves farther away. In the video from @thesoberlifeproject, the boy spots the problem almost straight away and grabs the rope to pull the raft back. The whole thing takes only a few seconds, but it says a lot about the boy and dog: the fun can wait until his buddy is safely aboard.

Sweet video captures the close bond between a boy and his dog

At the start of the video, the boy runs down the jetty and makes a quick jump onto the floating raft. His dog is right behind him, looking ready to come along too. There’s one small problem, though: as soon as the boy lands, the raft starts floating away. The dog reaches the edge and stops, realizing the raft is no longer where it needs to be. He seems tempted to go for it, but the raft keeps getting farther away.

The boy quickly spots that his buddy is still waiting on the jetty and turns back. He gets up, grabs the rope tied to the raft, and starts pulling it toward the jetty. He keeps at it until the raft is close enough for his dog to make the jump. The pup does a quick spin while he waits, then finally jumps onto the raft when it comes close enough.

Once his dog is safely aboard, the boy looks up at the person filming with the biggest grin. Getting his dog onto the raft seems like the most obvious thing in the world to him. If his dog couldn’t reach the raft, then the raft had to come back. Simple as that.

The video has now passed 2 million views and collected more than 82,000 likes, and plenty of viewers have admitted the moment got to them. One viewer wrote that the boy “will be a good human being,” while another gave his parents credit for raising a child who already knows to look out for his dog. It’s only a short clip, but the boy and dog make their priorities pretty obvious: nobody gets left behind.
