A sweet Instagram video from @ladyandtheblues shows that Lady the Golden Retriever has picked her little girl, and she does not plan to let her out of sight. In the video, the Golden Retriever stays glued to a little girl named Olivia, following her around everywhere.

The video opens with a flashback to when Olivia’s mom was pregnant. As the on-screen caption explains, “My dog refused to go for a walk without me when I was pregnant BUT…,” it then jumps to the present, showing, “Now she doesn’t want to leave the baby.”

The video stitches together several moments featuring the Golden Retriever and the little girl, which shows just how much love they have for each other. Lady sits and waits when Olivia sits. When Olivia stays put, Lady stays put too, even when her mom tries to tug her along — a scene we witness in one of the clips, showing Lady lying close beside Olivia on a bench, refusing to move because Olivia does not move.

Other clips show the two having fun on the grass, crossing a bridge together, and at home, where they kiss and also curl up in matching pajamas. One of the sweetest clips shows Lady resting her big head right on top of Olivia’s face, looking calm and content, like this is exactly where she belongs — and as the video’s caption says, Lady declared Olivia as “My baby.”

What we see in this video can happen with a Golden Retriever like Lady and a little girl like Olivia, because many dogs lock are keen on family roles. Hence, they notice changes in the house long before people think they do, everything from new scents to new schedules. And once the baby arrives, the dog may develop a habit of watching over the little one, especially if it’s a breed known for sticking close to its people.

Whatever you call it, best friend or self-appointed babysitter, this little girl in the video is a part of the Golden Retriever’s pack, and Lady plans to keep it that way.
