Barkley, a Golden Retriever puppy, proved that to her owners in a series of clips from her early days at home. After being showered with compliments for her good behavior, she responded in a way that probably made her owners think twice about celebrating too soon.

Barkley was still a young puppy when she gave her owners a lesson in not celebrating too soon. A video shared by @ptcubed features footage from her early days at home. It shows the Golden Retriever being showered with praise while playing innocently with her plush toy.
Her owners can be seen petting Barkley and enthusiastically telling her what a good dog she is. The puppy appears perfectly content as she plays with her toy and enjoys all the attention. However, the proud moment lasts only briefly. Almost immediately after being praised, Barkley pees on the carpet, leaving her owners with a rather inconvenient reminder that she was still learning the basics.
The video then cuts to another moment from around the time Barkley had first arrived at her new home. She is seen carrying her toy as she explores the house. Meanwhile, her owner encourages her to look around and become familiar with the space. The seemingly innocent tour takes another funny turn when Barkley once again pees on the floor.
Text on the video captures the joke: “POV: you praise your puppy and immediately eat your words.” The caption continues the same playful theme, with Barkley’s owner quipping, “Did I jinx it?” They also explained that Barkley is still just as vocal as she was in the video. However, she “thankfully no longer pees on the floor.”
While the clips are funny in hindsight, accidents are a normal part of raising a young puppy. New puppies have small bladders and are still learning to recognize when they need to eliminate, so consistency is essential. To help prevent accidents, take your puppy outside frequently, particularly after waking up, eating, drinking, and playing.
Praise and reward them immediately after they urinate in the appropriate spot so they begin to associate the behavior with something positive. Keeping a predictable schedule and watching for signs such as sniffing, circling, or suddenly wandering away can also help you get them outside in time.
