Otis has apparently turned sock stealing into one of his favorite hobbies, and his family finally decided to catch the culprit red-handed. What they captured on camera, however, was even funnier than expected. The Golden Retriever has a very specific routine whenever he comes across a sock.
According to his owner, Otis quietly steals them and carries each one back to his bed. So while there was never much mystery surrounding the socks, his family decided to set up a camera to uncover exactly how their furry thief was pulling off his heists.

In the video, the camera captures the staircase as Otis casually walks into the area. A sock is lying nearby, making it the perfect bait for the family’s notorious sock thief. Otis wastes no time, walking straight over, grabbing the sock in his mouth and carrying it away.
But then comes the funniest part. The Golden Retriever suddenly notices the camera and stops to stare directly into the lens. For a brief moment, Otis appears to realize that his little heist has been caught on camera.
The video flashes the words “CAMERA SPOTTED” as Otis quickly makes his escape with the stolen prize, followed by the playful warning, “BETTER RUN.” His owner explained that the family was already well aware of Otis’ sock-stealing habit, as every stolen sock would eventually find its way to his bed. The owner added that setting up a camera and watching Otis “come in and steal the bait” turned out to be far more entertaining than expected.
The clip quickly won over viewers, particularly when Otis paused mid-heist to acknowledge the camera before making his getaway. One user wrote, “The stop and look at camera is perfection.” Another joked, “Caught in action.. I better run.”
One viewer observed, “Always the socks!” while another declared, “Caught red-handed.” One commenter imagined Otis’ thought process, writing, “Caught! – contemplating! – nope, no regrets!” Another hilariously came to the Golden Retriever’s defense, explaining, “He’s doing nothing wrong, Mom! I can vouch for it! He’s just trying to clean up the mess that you all made before!”
